Maoist DSA Faction Slams AOC as an ‘Opportunist’ Over Her Views on Palestine and Policing

The Democratic Socialists of America’s Liberation Caucus is rejecting Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez as a potential 2028 Democratic presidential candidate, arguing that the New York Democrat has moved too far away from the socialist movement’s hard-left agenda.
The Marxist-Leninist-Maoist faction accused Ocasio-Cortez of abandoning socialist principles and called her an “opportunist dilettante” in a blistering statement.
The group criticized her positions on Israel, accusing her of failing to maintain an anti-Zionist stance after she supported Israel’s right to exist and appeared alongside organizations the faction considers supportive of Israel.
The caucus also attacked Ocasio-Cortez for backing away from her earlier support for defunding the police. It accused her of dismissing the 2020 protests and policing movement as part of a radical political phase she no longer needs.
The group argued that Ocasio-Cortez once benefited politically from that rhetoric but has since abandoned it as she looks toward a potential national campaign.
“This is the action of an opportunist dilettante,” the caucus declared, accusing her of having no consistent socialist principles.
The attack comes as the broader DSA pushes an even more radical political platform. Its new program calls for eliminating the Senate, presidency and Supreme Court, and the organization says candidates seeking its endorsement must support the agenda.
The Liberation Caucus specifically warned against any potential AOC presidential campaign, arguing that putting a “social democrat” in the White House would only lead to further compromises with the American political establishment.
While the national DSA opposes an Ocasio-Cortez presidential bid, the New York City chapter has repeatedly endorsed her campaigns. The Liberation Caucus claims the chapter has even discussed separating from the national organization over disagreements including its support for Ocasio-Cortez.
Ocasio-Cortez has emerged as one of the leading names in early Democratic speculation for 2028, although she has not announced a presidential campaign.
The DSA Liberation Caucus was formed in 2025 and openly identifies itself as a Marxist-Leninist-Maoist caucus within the Democratic Socialists of America.
