Every cookie this site sets, and what each one is for. There are fewer than you are used to.
Nothing is set. Browsing the site without signing in stores no cookies at all, and sends nothing about you to anyone.
A session cookie. It keeps you signed in as you move between pages, and it is removed when you sign out. It exists only to recognise your own session, is not shared with anyone, and is not used to follow you anywhere.
Two small preferences live in your browser rather than in a cookie, which means they are never transmitted to the server and never leave your device.
Your theme. Whether you chose the light or dark page.
Your reading list. The stories you saved. Saving is entirely local, which is why a saved story does not follow you to another device, and why we cannot see what you saved.
Neither is running. There is no advertising network, no analytics product, and no third-party script of any kind. The advertisement slots you see are reserved empty space.
Because none of this is used for tracking, you can clear cookies and site data for The Meridian at any time without breaking anything. You will be signed out, the page will go back to its light theme, and your saved reading list will be gone. Nothing else changes.
